The Richmond Foundation, the Young People’s Unit at Mount Carmel Hospital and Fondazzjoni Arka have benefited from the donations received under the BOV Staff Charitable Donations Fund. Launched last year, the fund is the result of an initiative in which bank employees pledge an amount of their choice from their salary in favour of charitable organisations. The bank commits itself to double the amount collected by its workforce.

“Bank of Valletta is an institution with a social conscience,” said Tonio Depasquale, chief executive officer at Bank of Valletta. “This characteristic which distinguishes us as Maltese runs deep within our culture. The response with which our people participated in this initiative is encouraging and gives us a sense of belonging and heightens the team spirit within this institution.”

Although relatively small in size, the Maltese islands are peppered with non-profit-making organisations that donate time and effort towards their peers who are less fortunate.

Mount Carmel Hospital is responsible for the coordination of all mental health professional services offered in Malta and Gozo, with the Young People’s Unit specialising in the medical services for the younger inpatients. The Richmond Foundation, founded in 1993, has as its aim the provision of community rehabilitation and support service for persons with mental and health difficulties. The Arka Foundation promotes the welfare of people with special needs and their families, primarily by fostering a positive attitude towards people with disability, while enriching their quality of life.
