AFM personnel from the 1st Regiment’s “C” (Special Duties) Company apprehended various people and seized drugs, ammunition and contraband cigarettes in the course of two vehicle checkpoints last night, AFM headquarters said.

In all, eight individuals were detained for varying contraventions: four men aged between 23 and 35 were found in possession of illegal shotgun ammunition shells, a loaded shotgun capable of taking more than three shells, 15 contraband packets of cigarettes and two unpaid road licence discs. Another man, aged 24, was also found without a paid road licence disc and three others, aged 23, 25, and 27 – the latter an Arab national resident in Malta – were found in possession of joints as well as cannabis resin blocks.

All the individuals detained were handed over to the police for further investigation.
