MLP Will ‘guarantee accountability’

Malta Independent Thursday, 10 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The new beginning that the Malta Labour Party will be giving Malta will be based on transparency, accountability and efficiency, party leader Alfred Sant said yesterday.

Speaking during a social activity in Qawra, Dr Sant said that the decisions a Labour government would be taking would not be in the interests of “friends of friends”.

At the same time, anyone who took a decision must be accountable for all his or her actions. It was not acceptable that millions of liri were wasted, he said. In the past four years, the government had spent Lm191 million more than it had estimated on a number of projects.

Projects undertaken by a Labour government would be done efficiently, said Dr Sant. Situations such as that of the Mgarr and Cirkewwa terminals – projects which were taking an interminable time to be completed – would not happen under a Labour administration, he added.
