Business Continuity and disaster recovery

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Malta Institute of Management and the Malta Union of Bank Employees are organising a seminar on 24 May that will deal with the subject of business continuity and disaster recovery in the financial services sector.

Most firms in the financial sector are ready to deal with potential threats to business continuity and, from a recent survey of leading companies, it was concluded that the major players in the financial system take their business continuity planning responsibility very seriously and will continue to improve their arrangements in order to maintain and increase their already high level of resilience.

However, one can ask various questions such as whether there are also good cooperative mechanisms in place to facilitate these activities, both within the private sector and between the public and private sectors, besides encouraging signs that smaller companies are recognising the need for appropriate continuity plans.

This seminar, the first of its kind in Malta, shall be the premier forum for the discussion of business continuity and disaster recovery issues in the financial services sector.

The financial services sector is continuously growing in Malta and the firms and human resources complement need to be prepared to ensure business continuity.

The seminar will be addressed by Malcolm Cheshire, executive director, Third Margin; Joseph Agius from Bank of Valletta and Joseph Demanuele from the Malta Financial Services Authority.
