As court marshals have been unable to track down the 28 lap dancers who were found not guilty in February of prostitution, indecent or immoral actions, and of dressing indecently, the Attorney General’s application of appeal to overturn this decision has been put off indefinitely, maltastar.com reported.

Last November, police had raided various nightclubs and arrested over 30 foreign women found dancing in these establishments. Later, 28 of the dancers were arraigned in court for dancing half naked, and for wearing tangas in nightclubs. They were also charged with prostitution for performing lap dances.

But last February, Magistrate Antonio Mizzi stated: “Today tangas are worn on the beach... That is even more worrying because there are children on the beaches whereas only people over the age of 21 are allowed into nightclubs.” He also stated that no evidence of prostitution was found. The magistrate cleared the 28 women of all charges.

A few days later, the Attorney General’s office filed an appeal case, where the court was asked to revoke the Magistrate Court’s decision, insisting that lap dancing was a lewd act, and any person committing such acts is considered a prostitute.

But when the court marshals started searching for the 28 lap dancers to hand them the notice to appear in court, they could not find them all.

Court sources told maltastar.com “During the last hearing of the appeal case, the court marshals reported that they could not find the dancers. Thus, the court decided to adjourn the case sine die, which means “put off indefinitely.”
