The GWU’s Government and Public Entities Section has registered an industrial dispute with the government about the danger posed to workers by the asbestos roofing of the Marsa garage.

Two years ago, it said, a report had found that the roofing was deteriorating and should be replaced.

But the dispute has been suspended because the Works Department said yesterday that it was immediately commissioning a second report about the roof.

The GWU section said it was not prepared to wait indefinitely for the report to be prepared.
