Malta Independent Tuesday, 22 May 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The second series of the Silents are Golden series, which is being held by the Manoel Theatre in collaboration with St James Cavalier, comes to a close tomorrow with Inferno.

This film, released in 1911, is based on the first part of Dante’s Divine Comedy and was the first full-length feature film to come from Italian cinema. It is considered by scholars and film-buffs alike to be the best adaptation of Dante on screen to date.

The film has a cast of over 150 and uses some of the most incredible cinematic tricks of the time in order to evoke the fury of Hell.

The screening will be accompanied by young, up-and-coming Maltese musician Daniel Schembri. It is being held in the Manoel Theatre courtyard and will begin at 8pm.
