The canonisation of the Blessed Dun Gorg Preca will be celebrated in Malta and Gozo with various activities, including a Mass at the Granaries in Floriana on 7 June.
The first event following the canonisation in Rome on 3 June, will be the exposition of the saint’s relic for public veneration as soon as it is brought back to the islands.
The relic, some of Dun Gorg’s blood kept in a small glass vial, will be flown to Rome for the canonisation ceremony by Archbishop Paul Cremona OP, and will be brought back on 5 June by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech.
On that day, the relic will be taken to Gozo, arriving in Mgarr Harbour at 3.30pm. At 6pm, there will be a cortege from St George’s Basilica to Victoria Cathedral, followed by a concelebrated Mass at 7pm.
The relic will be brought to Malta on 6 June at 6pm. A procession will be held from Our Lady of Victory church in Valletta (near Castille Place) to St John’s Co-Cathedral, and the relic will remain there for public veneration on Thursday from 9am to 6pm.
On 7 June at 7pm, the relic will be carried in a procession from the cathedral to the Floriana Granaries, where a Mass will start at 7.30pm. After the celebration, the relic will be taken to the MUSEUM chapel in Blata l-Bajda.
On 8 June, at 7.30pm, the relic will be returned to St Gejtanu parish church in Hamrun, which has been its home for many years.
