Court: Charged With hitting a man in the face with a glass

A man was yesterday charged with hitting a man in the face with a glass, seriously injuring him in the process.

Paul Borg, 27, from Santa Lucija, was charged with seriously injuring Johansson Spiteri on 27 May 2006 outside the Santa Lucija bocci club. He was also accused of relapsing.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Lawrence Quintano, yesterday heard Mr Spiteri testify how on the day in question, he walked into the club at around 1.15pm and Mr Borg told him her wanted to speak to him outside. He said that as soon as he went outside, Mr Borg smashed the glass he had in his hand on the left side of his face.

Mr Spiteri said that after doing so, Mr Borg told him not to approach his son again. When asked, Mr Spiteri said he only knows the defendant’s son because he usually met him at the Santa Lucija playground. Replying to other questions, Mr Spiteri said he had never had any other arguments with the accused.

The case continues.

Police Inspector Jesmond Borg prosecuted while Dr Joseph Giglio appeared for the accused. Dr Noel Camilleri appeared parte civile for Mr Spiteri.
