The Forum Malta fl-Ewropa and the Institute of Financial Services, Malta have teamed up to organise a Business Breakfast Workshop on the theme Retail Financial Services – Working with a single market mindset in a post-euro context.

The event is being held on Thursday at the Radisson SAS Bay Point, St Julian’s.

The workshop is being held in the light of the publication by the European Commission of a Green Paper on further opening up the European retail financial services market to more cross-border competition. The Green Paper has targeted retail services such as current accounts, payments, personal loans, mortgages, savings, pensions, investments and insurance products, among others.

Participants at the workshop will be addressed by Tim Grange (Manager – EU/International Team, Retail Policy Division) from the UK’s Financial Services Authority, who will be outlining the contents of the Green Paper and its possible implications as well as outlining the UK’s approach, and Geoffrey Bezzina (Head, Consumer Complaints Unit) from the Malta Financial Services Authority will be tackling the Green Paper from the consumers’ perspective with a presentation on the theme Consumers and Retailers: do their priorities meet?

Tonio Fenech, Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, will be making an opening address.
