A woman was yesterday jailed for one year suspended for two after she was found guilty of seriously injuring her estranged husband when she smashed a picture frame over his head.

The incident took place on 15 June 2006 when Anna Borg, 38, from Gudja, smashed a picture frame over Emanuel Farrugia’s head as he returned back home from work.

Handing down her judgement, magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera said that the court could not believe the woman’s version that she was acting in self defence because the incident took place ample time after Mr Farrugia entered the bathroom to assault her, as she claimed. The magistrate therefore found her guilty of the charges brought against her and jailed her for one year suspended for two.

The woman was cleared for breaching the peace since the incident took place inside the matrimonial home where the couple used to live.

Police Inspector Joseph Agius prosecuted.
