The Sliema band will perform Franz Von Suppe’s Light Cavalry synchronised with a colourful fireworks show at the Sliema Strand on 30 June from 10pm.

The programme also includes a Neapolitan Rhapsody with the three tenors, Andrew Sapiano, Joseph Aquilina and Brian Cefai singing popular songs like Santa Lucia, Torna a Sorriento, Come Facette Mammeta and Maria Mari’, Ludwig Galea sings O Surdato’ Nnamorato and Con Te Partiro’, and soprano Claire Caruana performs Domenico Quercetti’s Marian hymn. The gran finale will be with the singers performing Verdi’s Brindisi from his opera La Traviata. Programme conductor: Mro Ronnie Debattista. The programme will be followed by a grand fireworks display.

Sacred Heart in Sliema

The titular feast of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is being celebrated in Sliema with the highlight of the festivities on Sunday, 1 July. During the week, festive band marches will be performed by the bands St Catherine of Zurrieq, St Gaetano of Hamrun, St Joseph of Hamrun, and St Michael of Zabbar.

The “Sliema” band will perform its celebration marches on the Friday evening and Sunday morning. On Saturday, 30 June it will march with the La Valette band to the Strand where at 9.30pm it will perform a vocal and musical programme.

The programme’s highlight will be the performance of Von Suppe’s “Light Cavalry” complemented by a synchronised grand fireworks display, the first-ever synchronisation spectacle of live music and colourful fireworks to be performed in Sliema.

On Sunday 1 July the procession with the statue of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart will start at 7.15pm with the participation of the Maria Mater Gratiae band of Zabbar and De Rohan Band of Zebbug.
