As part of the German Presidency of the European Council, Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited young Europeans to attend a European Youth meeting being held in Berlin from 24 to 29 June.

European Union countries have been encouraged to submit a creative project using any one or more of the following forms of expression: music, dance, film and/or photography, new media, theatre, visual arts and language. The selected projects will contribute to the artistic presentation and workshop discussion of the meeting’s theme: On the road in Europe: opportunities for young people to study, work and live in Europe.

The German-Maltese Circle, together with the EU Programmes Youth Unit, were entrusted to nominate projects from among Maltese youths. The projects from Malta were forwarded to the organisers in Berlin, who chose the one presented by a group of young dancers under the direction of Natasha Galea, from Pauleen’s Dance Studio of St Paul’s Bay. The creative project by this Maltese group is intended to present the island’s cultural identity through the universal language of music, art and dance.

The dance is choreographed by Natasha Galea, to original music composed by Ruben Zahra, performed by the Folk ensemble Nafra. A script by Joe Julian Farrugia will introduce the project. Paintings by artist Pauleen Micallef will be used as a backdrop to the performance.

The group is supported by St Paul’s Bay local council.
