A man who was found guilty of bribing driving examiners in order to obtain his driving licence filed a judicial letter in court yesterday complaining that the Malta Transport Authority was discriminating against him.

In his judicial protest filed against the Transport and Urban Development Minister and the Director of the Malta Transport Authority (ADT), Christian Mallia explained that he was one of those who had been found guilty of bribing an examiner in order to obtain his driver’s licence. He had been conditionally discharged for two years.

Mallia said that, following his court judgement, he received a letter from the ADT asking him to return the licence he had obtained illegally. He said he is frustrated that others who were involved in the scandal were not also asked to return theirs.

He said that through a Member of Parliament, who is also his lawyer, he filed a parliamentary question for more information about who has been involved in this matter.

He said that the question remained unanswered because the Roads Minister is claiming that he cannot divulge the information as this would breach the Data Protection Act.

In view of the circumstances, said Mallia, he is led to believe that the ADT is discriminating against him by asking him for his driving licence but not others. He said he was holding the ADT responsible for damages.
