The police arrested two men in connection with heroin trafficking yesterday, one of the cases involving a high speed car chase.

The first arrest took place after a Mobile Squad car was patrolling the Sa’ Maison area when officers noticed a man acting suspiciously. The officers stopped and searched the man, who was found to be in possession of 10 sachets of heroin that were ready to be sold to others. The police said the man was a 30-year-old from Valletta.

Later, the same squad was patrolling in Qormi when they saw a car that was being driven erratically. The police tried to stop the vehicle, but as soon as they did, the driver took off at high speed. He was eventually stopped in Luqa, but not before he threw out a bag which contained five grammes of what is suspected to be heroin.

The 25-year-old motorist from Qormi was arrested and taken in for questioning. It is understood that the two men will be charged in court in the next few days.
