After the Wied il-Ghasel project by the Lily of the Valley Secondary School in Mosta was launched, it was taken to another level – a DVD and a brochure with all the studies carried out by the students and the teachers involved, Fiona Ciangura and Shawn Vella, was produced on a national scale.

After this project, the school decided to embark on a new one – to develop an eco-school within the premises.

The Lily of the Valley School will be the first secondary school in Malta running the eco-school project by nine elected members from among 600 school students. The election was run democratically under the supervision of Loreto Dalli, and the commissioners of the election were the students themselves.

The electoral results were published on an eco-school board and confirmed by Head of School Ms Josephine Mifsud.

The elected committee has been preparing the school for running classes in an energy-efficient manner, both during and after lessons. The school is being geared to favour separation of waste and other environment friendly measures.

Earlier this month, the elected committee invited Dr Paul Pace, Director of Environment, Education and Research Centre to visit the school and formally include it in the eco-school project.
