Foresta 2000 Site in Mellieha: Agenda Kids Club contributes to develop children’s area

Malta Independent Monday, 18 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

In a bid to support the rehabilitation of the Foresta 2000 site in Mellieha, Agenda Kids Club is contributing to have a children-friendly area incorporated as part of the afforestation project which is currently under way.

The Agenda Kids Club was established last year with the aim of promoting literature and educating children on issues like the environment. In collaboration with the 34U Campaign of the Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment, the club is committed to plant a tree for every member registered by the end of the year.

“Children have showed an immense interest in the Agenda Kids Club and to date we already have close to 3,000 young members,” said Rachelle Tabone, Marketing Manager for Agenda Bookshop. “We should be planting trees with the children in October and look forward to seeing the children’s area taking shape to be used by children where they can combine leisure and reading in a natural environment.”

Every young member who joins the Agenda Kids Club receives a certificate – together with a goodie bag and membership benefits – as proof that a tree is being planted in their name. This is in line with the club’s philosophy to show that just one little tree from a child can make a difference to make Malta greener for the benefit of future generations. Membership into the Agenda Kids Club is free of charge.

“The Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment has launched the 34U Campaign with the aim of involving businesses and civil society in this nationwide tree-planting programme,” said Glenn Bugeja, coordinator for the 34U Campaign. “We thank Agenda Kids Club for introducing children to the concept of being active about safeguarding the environment. I continue to encourage the general public to make their donation to the Foresta 2000 in the following accounts: HSBC – 0332-2145-8001 and BOV – 1019-6790-9 84.”
