The works of 21 contemporary artists from around the Mediterranean basin went on display in Rome yesterday exploring the identity of the region through experimentation and tradition. The show is entitled L’Uomo del Mediterraneo.
“This exhibition is a utopia of bringing together, united in dialogue with their wealth of history and culture, the countries of the Mediterranean too often divided by tragic conflicts” explained Maria Teresa Benedetti who, along with Alessandro Nicosia, curated the event. The exhibition is part of the Mediterranean Festival.
Malta is represented by Celia Borg Cardona, who is exhibiting three large paintings on canvas depicting fleeting snapshots of everyday encounters by people here in Malta.
The exhibition is open to anyone visiting Rome until 8 July at the Sala Centrale of the prestigious Vittoriano Complex that forms part of the Vittorio Emanuele Monument on Piazza Venezia – more popularly known as “the wedding cake”. Facing the monument, the entrance is on the left.
The exhibition is also being featured in the Rai 3 television programme Tgr Mediterraneo at 1.20pm on 30 June.
