Court: 19 Soldiers sue Prime Minister and AFM Commander for damages

Malta Independent Tuesday, 26 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A total of 19 soldiers yesterday filed a court case against the Prime Minister and the Commander of the Armed Forces of Malta claiming damages when they were not given a promotion which was instead given to their colleagues who according to them are less qualified than them.

The soldiers claimed that in a recent exercise in which a number of soldiers were given a promotion, they were unjustly left out of this process and remained without a promotion. They said that this exercise was “abusive” and “unreasonable”. They claimed that promotions were given to other soldiers who were not as experienced and not according to seniority.

The soldiers therefore called on the court to order the Prime Minister and the AFM Commander to give them the promotion they were due. They also called on the First Hall of the Civil Court to liquidate the damages they were due because they had not been given the promotion they believe they deserved.

Dr Jose Herrera and Dr David Camilleri signed the writ.
