Overwhelming Public response for Valletta electric cabs

Malta Independent Friday, 29 June 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Valletta Electric Cab Service, which was launched on 14 June, began operating as planned last Monday.

A spokesman for the promoters, CT Park Ltd, confirmed that “response from the public was much higher than expected and the 10 cabs, criss-crossing the streets of Valletta, found it very difficult to cope with demand.

“For the first week, the service was free of charge because we wanted everyone to sample the comfort and convenience of this new service in Valletta,” said the spokesman.

As from next Monday, as an introductory offer, a fee of 45¢ will be charged for any length of journey from any point to any destination in Valletta.

The 10 electric cabs operate non stop, seven days a week from seven in the morning to seven in the evening. After seven in the evening, those wishing to avail themselves of the service may use the dial-a-cab service by calling 2133-3321 and the CT Cab will pick up clients from any spot.

K. De Martino, chairman of CT Park Ltd, the operators of the Valletta CT Cab Service, said that the company was already considering increasing the number of cabs in view of the demand for the service.
