Two Libyan men were charged yesterday with conspiracy to import heroin and with importing nearly one kilogramme of heroin, which was allegedly found hidden in the false bottom of a suitcase at Malta International Airport, following their arrival from abroad.
Haithem Swissi, aged 24, and 21-year-old Emad Ibrahim Wadi, pleaded not guilty to being involved in the importation of the heroin on 26 June and the preceding days.
Appearing before magistrate Giovanni Grixti, the two men pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. They were refused bail and remanded in custody.
Police Inspector Dennis Theuma prosecuted while Dr Gabrielle Buttigieg appeared for the accused.
