The Ghana police have arrested a man, actually a policeman, who claimed he was the ambassador for Malta and swindled people in the process.
Forty-one-year-old dismissed Sergeant of the Ghana Police Service, Stanley Gbeglo, was arrested on the day of the capture of the group leader, 36-year-old Nana Koranteng, also the mastermind of a plot that robbed unsuspecting victims of $29,000, £7,000 and ¢22 million.
A police investigator told the Accra court the accused pretended to be a diplomat who represented the Republic of Malta in Ghana and had extorted money from people to help them travel to Malta.
