A man was jailed for two years and seven months yesterday after a Magistrates’ Court found him guilty of possessing and trafficking ecstasy pills on and before March 2005.
The court, presided over by magistrate Lawrence Quintano, heard how Wayne Cutajar, 20, from Valletta, was stopped by the police as he was driving near Balzan playing field on 19 March 2005. When he saw the officers, Cutajar threw a bag out of the car, got out and tried to escape. However, he was caught by police officers shortly afterwards. The court heard that Cutajar was found to be in possession of more than 200 ecstasy pills.
He was also found guilty of possessing and trafficking the pills within 100 metres of a venue frequented by young people.
Handing down his judgement, magistrate Quintano jailed Cutajar for two years and seven months and fined him Lm600.
Police Inspector Nezren Grixti prosecuted.
