A refurbishment programme has been carried out at the Helen Keller School in Qrendi, which caters for students with multiple disabilities and sensory impairments.

Among other work, this has included the installation of a new Jacuzzi bath – an idea supported by the Vodafone Malta Foundation and the HSBC Cares For Children Fund (HCCF).

One of the aims of the school, which was established in 1992, is to provide a secure and supportive environment for its current 23 students. This is achieved through the optimal use of both the physical and human resources available at the school. The school also provides a peripatetic service for deaf and hard of hearing students in mainstream schools. There are presently approximately 90

students receiving this service.

HSBC Cares For Children Fund chairperson Catherine Gonzi said: “The students at this school have complex needs and HCCF is only too glad to be of help in at least contributing towards the necessary equipment and resources to meet these needs.”

Vodafone Malta Foundation chairperson Gemma Mifsud Bonnici said: “The school continuously invests in specialised rooms and equipment such as the Multisensory Room, which is also used by students with disabilities in mainstream schools on a

regular basis. We hope our contribution will help alleviate some of the hardships of these

students.”
