UHM Discusses ‘monti’ issues with ministry

Malta Independent Friday, 6 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The Union Haddiema Maghqudin, together with representatives of the Valletta open-air market hawkers, held a meeting with Emanuel Delia, coordinator of the Valletta Project at the Investment, Industry and IT Ministry, to discuss problems being faced by the hawkers at their new site in Merchants Street.

The UHM said that the new site was inconvenient for both the hawkers and the buyers. For example, the site was not cleaned up properly, an issue which the ministry promised it would tackle immediately.

The UHM also pointed out certain difficulties related to the logistics of the new site, such as the fact that the concrete layer is not complete and not smooth, and the lack of public toilets. Again, the ministry promised action on this point, a UHM statement said. More signs indicating the location of the monti are to be set up in Valletta.
