Malta Independent Sunday, 15 July 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The University of Malta Engineering Students’ Association (UESA) will be holding its first European Young Engineers (EYE) conference in October, with the main theme being “EYE at Valletta 2007 – Networking Europe through Engineering”.

EYE Secretary General Roger McLaughlin explained that EYE is a European network of young engineering professionals and students representing more than 150,000 members that offers access to a Europe-wide network by linking the national engineering associations.

Ian Buhagiar, UESA president and the current EYE president commented that this will be a unique opportunity for Malta to showcase itself as a centre for engineering excellence in Europe. Besides industrial visits to leading manufacturing companies, the conference will include a number of high level speakers from global companies operating in Malta.

Vincent Rapa, the conference chairperson and an EYE task force member said the logistical preparations for the Valletta conference are well underway. “The conference programme has been finalised and currently we are working round the clock to gather as many sponsors as we can. While a number of corporate partners are already on board, we are now working closely with government and European entities to support us during this event.”
