Suspended Sentences after Marsa bar fight

Three men were yesterday given suspended jail terms after admitting to assaulting two men after being provoked into the act at a bar in Marsa.

Saviour Cachia, 25, from Pietà, Anthony Zammit, 46, from Fgura, and Carlos Caruana, 29, from Marsa, admitted to assaulting Rennie Lia and Carlo Vella at Pjazza Bar on Sunday.

They also admitted to slightly injuring Mr Vella and seriously injuring Mr Lia. They also admitted to damaging Mr Vella’s car and causing damage at the bar. The court, presided over by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera heard how the accused were provoked before handing down three-month jail terms to the men, which were however, suspended for one year. Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted while Dr Joseph Giglio appeared for the accused.
