The police raided two sites in Qormi and Siggiewi on Tuesday and yesterday and confiscated considerable quantities of illegally manufactured fireworks.

The first raid was on Tuesday at “an establishment” in Cannon Street, Qormi, where a considerable quantity of fireworks was being stored illegally. Duty magistrate Dr C. Scerri Herrera was informed and appointed experts to help in her inquiry.

The second raid was conducted yesterday, in a field in Ta’ Kandja, on the outskirts of Siggiewi, where a man was found manufacturing fireworks illegally. Duty magistrate Dr. A. Demicoli ordered an inquiry.

The police said all the fireworks were removed with the assistance of the AFM’s Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit. The fireworks included “a large quantity” of suffarelli, stoppini, and murtali and equipment used in their manufacture.

Police taking part in the operations were from the Special Branch, the districts and the Mobile Squad.
