The third raid in as many days yesterday yielded more illegally manufactured and stored fireworks, when Special Branch and Birzebbuga district police raided a farm in Wied il-Qoton.
The police said they found a considerable amount of musketterija and other fireworks. A person is helping them in their investigations. Magistrate Miriam Hayman ordered an on-site inquiry.
Special Squad and Gozo district police also carried out an inspection at a fireworks factory in Gozo to establish whether the materials used in the production of fireworks there were acquired according to regulations. Investigations are continuing.
The police raided two sites, in Siggiewi and Qormi, on Tuesday and Wednesday, in search for illegal fireworks.
It is not known if these searches are related to the fireworks explosion in a Gharghur factory last June, in which five men were killed.
