The implementation of Legal Notice 51/2007 on employment contracts of local councils’ employees was discussed by the Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM) public entities section, the Local Councils Executive Secretaries Association (ASKLM) and Education, Youth and Employment Minister Louis Galea.
The meeting was called in order to clarify the implications of the Legal Notice.
The notice specifies that employees who have been working for more than four years will automatically be given an indefinite contract. This has already been effective for public sector employees, the UHM said in a statement.
Through the Legal Notice, a large number of employees will be given an indefinite contract in the coming days. However, a number of clauses in this notice contrast with the EU Directive 1999/70/EC. This fact prompts fresh doubts about the implementation of the Legal Notice among a number of employees, especially local councils executive secretaries.
