The theme of last Friday’s BOV Streets Alive programme – the fifth in the series – was Valletta Romantika, and was intended to portray the capital city as being a romantic place at night.

The BOV Streets Alive programme is being organised by the Valletta Alive Foundation in collaboration with Bank of Valletta.

St John’s Street, St Ursula Street, St Lucia Street and Victoria Gate Bridge were decorated with thousands of candles to a design by artist David Bonello. The event was organised in collaboration with the Ghaqda Pawlini.

Accompanied by live music, bars and restaurants in the area catered for the people who had come along to enjoy the romantic atmosphere. The programme started at around 8.30pm and continued until midnight.

A concert by the Denner Clarinet Quartet in Great Siege Square complimented the beautiful atmosphere provided by the many restaurants in Republic Street that served their

customers al fresco.

Guided tours emphasising the romantic aspect of Valletta took visitors from St Barbara Church in Republic Street to the Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens, St Barbara Bastion and Victoria Gate, where the view of the candle-lit streets could be enjoyed in its full splendour.
