Young Enterprise To go extra mile, with HSBC backing

Malta Independent Monday, 27 August 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Young Enterprise (Junior Achievement) Malta is making headway with its primary education programme, entitled “Our Nation”, thanks to an additional Lm10,000 contribution from HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c.

The programme will be delivered as a pilot project in six schools - Mellieha, Mosta, Msida, Qormi, Kalkara and Ghajnsielem. The new entrepreneurship programme fosters in students attributes such as creativity, initiative and independence, that all contribute to the development of an entrepreneurial attitude which will prove useful in life and in every working activity.

Young Enterprise chairman Karl Gouder said: “With this very generous additional sponsorship from HSBC we will now take the programme into the next phase. After receiving feedback from both teachers and students on the customised UK programme, come October, we will be implementing this programme.

“By using storybooks, role playing, field trips, fun activities, use of technology, among others, young students are introduced to business terms and concepts which provide them with a sound background of enterprise suitable for their age. Through ‘Our Nation’, students will be able to analyse the Maltese context, understand business, communication and economic concepts, and explore issues in employment and human resources,” he said.

“HSBC can only reinforce its belief in the potential of young people, when we see such motivation, participation, hard work, leadership and willingness to learn as we have experienced in recent years through Young Enterprise,” said Shaun Wallis, Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Bank Malta. “Our support for entrepreneurial education will keep this positive steam going.”
