‘Azzjoni Nazzjonali’ On MCESD chairman

Malta Independent Saturday, 1 September 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The latest party on the political scene, Azzjoni Nazzjonali, believes that the chairman of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development should be a person of integrity who has experience in various sectors of the economy.

This person had to be able to convey the message of the social partners and civil society in a direct manner to the cabinet, and even take part in cabinet discussions. The chairman also had to be politically inactive and have a high intellectual level.

Azzjoni Nazzjonali said it had already declared that the government should be able to appoint a limited number of technocrats as ministers without a vote in parliament. It was crucial for information, problems and proposals of all sectors of the economy to reach the cabinet directly, not after being handled by others, with the misinterpretation of facts that this often meant.
