Dr George Zammit Maempel, a medical doctor presented a copy of his recently published book Illustrators and their Illustrations of Maltese Fossils and Geology to Dr Mario Tabone, chairman of Heritage Malta, at the Heritage Malta head office in Valletta.

Dr Zammit Maempel has a keen interest in Maltese geology and has published several books on the subject. As a result, in 1967 he was appointed assistant curator of natural history responsible for the geology and paleontology sections including the Ghar Dalam cave and museum. In 1973 he planned and actuated the Geology and Paleontology Halls at the Natural History Museum in Mdina. In 1988 he was appointed curator, remaining in this post until 2002. During this period he planned and set up the new museum at Ghar Dalam.
