HSBC To launch retail branches in Japan next year

As Japan’s oldest Bank, HSBC Bank plc plans to make its entry into the retail banking sector in Japan early in 2008 with a nationwide network of branches targeting high income customer, opening branches in Tokyo and Osaka and other major cities.

“HSBC is looking to expand not only its retail presence in Japan, which currently focuses on corporate financial services, but across Asia,” said HSBC Malta’s CEO, Shaun Wallis. “HSBC’s expansion of its retail operations in Asia will assist customers here in Malta who seek our international help and global links.”
