Court: Man Charged with assaulting police officer

A man from Rabat was yesterday granted bail after he pleaded not guilty to the charges of insulting and assaulting a police officer in the Rabat police station at around 5.30am yesterday morning.

Neville Abela pleaded not guilty before presiding magistrate Jacqueline Padovani to assaulting, insulting and threatening a police officer in the Rabat police station yesterday.

Mr Abela was also accused of verbally threatening a police officer, disobeying police orders, using vulgar language in public and breaching the peace.

Magistrate Padovani granted Mr Abela bail against a personal guarantee of Lm500.

Police inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted while Dr Patrick Valentino appeared for Mr Abela.
