Investments Minister Austin Gatt has written to the chairman of parliament’s public accounts committee to point out that no date had yet been set for a committee sitting to investigate claims by the Opposition Leader about the Water Services Corporation.

The committee, Dr Gatt pointed out to Charles Mangion, had agreed at its 4 September meeting that the first sitting would hear the Opposition Leader Alfred Sant, the director general in the department of contracts, and the chairman of the WSC. Dr Gatt asked Dr Mangion to convene a committee meeting as soon as possible so that they would hear the witnesses.

Dr Gatt also reminded Dr Mangion that the government side on the committee had agreed verbally that the auditor general would conduct all the necessary investigations into the costs variations of the drainage purification plants. But no one on the opposition side had presented the necessary motion and if the opposition did this the government members, who are in a majority, would vote for the motion.
