A 23- year-old man from Xewkija died in a traffic accident yesterday, after smashing into a crane tower at about 4.40am in Ghajn Qatet Street, Rabat, Gozo.

The police were called on location where from preliminary investigations they made, they found that the car, a Mitsubishi Lancer, had smashed straight into a crane tower. Due to the impact of the crash, the toppled over and some concrete blocks underneath it, used to balance the machine, landed on top of the car. The paramedics and the Civil Protection Department rushed to the spot where the man was certified dead.

Duty Magistrate Dr Coppini was informed with the case, and appointed several experts to help him in drawing up an inquiry. Further police investigations are still underway.
