An 80-year-old Briton was brought ashore from the sea at Ghajn Tuffieha yesterday and was given first aid but was declared dead on the spot.
The police said they received a report at about 1pm that a man who had gone out swimming was likely to be in difficulty.
The man had gone out swimming some time earlier and it was noticed later that he had not returned to shore.
Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna was informed and appointed experts to conduct an inquiry.
