Skolasport, organised by the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport (KMS) and sponsored by Kellogg’s, starts on Saturday. In addition to the many benefits of regular exercise, the programme offers children and youngsters the possibility to mix in a socially acceptable way, gain self-confidence and observe discipline.
Since its inception, KMS has reinforced the Skolasport philosophy to offer children of less than 10 years of age the possibility to learn the different skills and sporting abilities through an intensive programme of physical education, basic skills, active play, educational gymnastics and dance.
“Our main aim is to provide children with a holistic educational programme that improves their sporting abilities and gives them the opportunity to experience a variety of team and individual sport,” said Andrew Decelis, Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport director.
KMS this year has also included another important venue to the list of top sporting venues on the Island, that is St. Benedict’s College at Kirkop, or better known as Tal-Karwija Sports Complex. Children under 10 years of age, therefore, have the possibility to choose their favourite, or the closest sport centre to their home. Venues include the Cottonera Sports Complex (Indoor), the Marsa Sports Complex (Outdoor), the University Sports Complex (Indoor), the National Pool Complex (Outdoor) and St. Benedict’s College (Outdoor).
In addition, Skolasport offers youngsters aged 11 to 16, a choice of over 20 sport disciplines in team and individual sport activities. It is an opportunity for all those interested to choose their favourite sport and start refining their techniques and take part in organised tournaments.
All participants will receive a free Kellogg’s t-shirt to wear during their training sessions. Further enquiries can be made via email [email protected], by calling Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport on tel. 2166-0658/9 or by visiting the website: www.sportmalta.org.mt
