A refurbished Santa Margerita Garden was inaugurated in Cospicua by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and Tourism Minister Francis Zammit Dimech.

The Lm60,000 works included replacing a wall, open stairs and the pavement surrounding the garden, new paving, landscaping, restoration of the bastion at the back of the garden, new lighting system, installation of automatic irrigation, playing field equipment, garden furniture and a CCTV security system.

Dr Zammit Dimech said the Malta Tourism Authority was making improvements in touristic places, and Gnien Sta Margerita was one of them.

The garden, he pointed out, was history. It had its bastion at the back and had a view of the three cities. It was the first point of contact with the Cottonera and was very popular with families.

Prime Minister Gonzi said the government was determined to regenerate the Cottonera area, which was why it had carried out various projects, such as a home for the elderly, the sports centre, the ACCESS building, the Vittoriosa strand, the yacht marina, apartments, school refurbishment and the infrastructure.
