Three men were yesterday charged with stealing a number of laptops, mobile phones and electronic equipment on different occasions.

The men are Silvio Camilleri, 23 from Gzira, Reuben D’Amato, 24, from Msida and a 17-year-old boy, whose name cannot be published since he is still a minor.

Mr Camilleri and the minor were accused of stealing two laptops as well as electronic and photographic equipment worth more than Lm1,000 from an apartment in St Julian’s on 25 September. They were also accused of damaging the apartment.

Mr D’Amato and the minor were charged with stealing two mobile phones from an apartment in St Julian’s and damaging it on 1 October.

Mr Camilleri alone was accused of stealing a laptop as well as other electronic and photographic material worth more than Lm1,000. He was also charged with breaching a previous court order and with being in possession of tools used for stealing without proving police with a reason why the tools were in his possession

The men pleaded not guilty before magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna, who remanded Mr Camilleri in custody and granted the minor and Mr D’Amato bail against a personal guarantee of Lm1,000.

Police Inspectors Carmelo Magri, Carlo Ellul and Carmelo Abdilla prosecuted while Dr Joe Giglio and Dr Leslie Cuschieri appeared for the accused.
