Malta Independent Tuesday, 9 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The victim of a traffic accident in Libya nearly 24 years ago, has been awarded Lm23,450 by way of compensation after the court heard that as a result he lost his sense of smell and taste.

Henry Ordway had filed the court case in April 1985 against John Sutherland, as a representative of Mobile Homes Limited.

The court, presided over by Mr Justice David Scicluna, heard how Mr Ordway, who was employed by Mobile Homes Limited, was a passenger in a car in Libya when it was involved in a bad traffic accident. As a result, he suffered severe injuries and was later said to have suffered a disability.

Doctors, even those appointed by the court, concluded that Mr Ordway had lost his sense of smell and taste and said that this amounted to a 20 per cent disability.

Mr Justice David Scicluna ordered Mr Sutherland and Mobile Homes Limited to pay Mr Ordway Lm23,450 as compensation.
