The General Workers’ Union called on the government to end the exploitation of workers in private security services, where employers were circumventing the law to give poor conditions of work and low wages.

The government, it said, should look into the situation with urgency as some contracts awarded to these companies were publicly funded and it was unacceptable that taxation would serve to exploit workers.

The situation was that employers were creating fictitious work contracts and sharing working hours between subsidiary companies. The result was that employees were being deprived of their proper conditions of work.

It was unacceptable that companies which were not competitive were entering the market by exploiting loopholes in the country’s laws and giving out poor working conditions so as to be able to lower the costs of their services.
