The second edition of the National Pyrotechnics Festival will be held on 5 April at the Granaries in Floriana.
Floriana mayor Nigel Holland said thousands of people had gathered at the Granaries to watch the festival last year, and the interest generated had decided the organising committee to make the festival an annual activity.
It will be held on the eve of the feast of St Publius, patron saint of Floriana. Last year saw the participation of 14 pyrotechnic associations. About Lm7,500 was spent by the council to hold it.
Festival director Noel Castillo said a subsidy of Lm200 will be given to each participant for the presentation of two pieces of pyrotechnic works.
The jury will consist of three international pyrotechnics experts and a Maltese chairman who will evaluate the works on the basis of four criteria which include: the best mechanism, the best use of chain work, the best pyrotechnic products used, and the most original exhibition, Mr Castillo said.
Applications will close on 30 October. They may be obtained by contacting Mr Castillo on 2780-6976 or 7940-8607 or by email to [email protected] Further information can be obtained by visiting www.maltagraoundfireworks.com
