The first Performers Platform Concert in the series of Valletta lunchtime concerts is “Music through the Ages”. It features flutist Laura Cioffi, accompanied on the piano by Christine Zerafa. The concert, organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, will take place on Friday 19 October at the Music Room, St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta. During this concert works by Handel, Chopin and Debussy will be played.
Laura Cioffi started studying the flute when she was only six years old. She studied music at the Johann Strauss School of Music under the direction of Mro Silvio Zammit FLCM LLCM (TD). She is a member of the University Junior College Orchestra and the Euro Academy Youth Orchestra. She participated in various master classes and took part in the Mozart Fest under the direction of Prof. Irmela Bossler.
Last year Ms Cioffi participated in a Flute Festival at Stratford-upon-Avon and recently she participated in the Accademia Internazionale di Musica in Cagliari, Italy with Prof. Jean Ferrandis.
Christine Zerafa commenced her piano studies with Juliette Lopez and continued her tuition with Ramona Zammit Formosa. In 2004 she obtained her Dip.ABRSM. Presently, she is continuing her studies with Joanne Camilleri, Mmus(Perf),LRSM. Ms Zerafa participated in various concerts both as solo performer and as accompanist. She took part in various master classes with Mro Marco Podesta’, Alexander Vavtar, and Prof. Siegfried Mauser. Recently she won the 11th Bice Mizzi Vassallo National Music Competition, which awarded her the opportunity to take part in the Lake District international summer course, where she received her classes with Prof. Klaus Hellwig, Renna Kellaway and Carole Presland.
The performance will commence at 12.35pm and will last for half an hour. Tickets for the price of Lm1 (EUR2.33) and Lm0.50 (EUR1.16) for children under 12 years of age and senior citizens, can be purchased from the booking office at St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta, telephone 2122-3200 (opening hours 10am to 9pm daily).
The series of Valletta lunchtime concerts are organised jointly by St James Centre for Creativity, Manoel Theatre and the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts. Lunchtime concerts at the church of St Catherine of Italy are held every Thursday and Sunday whilst those at Sala Isuoard (Manoel Theatre) are held every Wednesday. Performers Platform Concerts are held every Friday fortnight between at the Music Room, St James Cavalier, Centre for Creativity in Valletta.
