MAM Pleased, but wants revision of working conditions

Malta Independent Tuesday, 16 October 2007, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The government’s decision to increase its spending on the health sector by Lm6 million was very positive, as was the government’s intention to reduce waiting lists in hospitals. However, this target could not be achieved if working conditions were not revised. To this end, MAM is hoping that the ongoing negotiations with the government on working conditions will be concluded in the coming days.

These talks were extremely important, as no targets could be reached without an adequate staff complement. Therefore, the government had to attract enough consultants, specialists and doctors in order to service both the outpatients as well as surgery.

The establishment of a rehabilitation centre was very important, in view of today’s medical practices, which are moving towards separate rehabilitation centres.
