A 35-year-old Libyan man yesterday pleaded not guilty to trying to steal objects worth more than Lm1,000 from St John’s Co-Cathedral on 9 October in the afternoon.

Before presiding magistrate Edwina Grima, Rashad El-Arabi Mabruk also pleaded not guilty to breaching a probation order.

Prosecuting inspector Anthony Portelli requested the court not to grant Mabruk bail as the man was not trustworthy.

Furthermore, he told the court, the accused lives in a small room without electricity and running water.

Magistrate Grima refused to grant Mabruk bail and remanded him in custody.

Police Inspector Anthony Portelli prosecuted while Dr Renzo Porsella Flores acted as legal aid to the accused.
