A 65-year-old man from Hamrun pleaded guilty to bribing a superintendent in June 2006 and in the preceding months.
Before magistrate Jacqueline Padovani, Alfred Galea pleaded guilty to the charges of bribing former Police Superintendent Patrick Spiteri.
Following his guilty plea, magistrate Padovani jailed Galea for six months suspended for one year.
Mr Spiteri also is facing separate charges for accepting bribes to influence decisions taken by police and assisting people to commit crimes when, as a Police Superintendent, he was duty bound to ensure that they do not take place.
Police Inspector Ian Joseph Abdilla prosecuted while Dr José Herrera and Dr David Camilleri appeared for Galea.
