The European Commission has just issued the final warning to the Maltese government regarding hunting in spring.

Failure to comply immediately with the warning will mean millions of euro fines to be paid not by Lawrence Gonzi, Simon Busuttil or David Casa but by all Maltese taxpayers, Alternattiva Demokratika said.

AD said that whenever it tried to stop spring hunting it was ignored by the Maltese government.

When its representative in Brussels at the time, Arnold Cassola, brought up the issue with the EU Commission, he was branded as a traitor of the Maltese not only by the NP officials but by the government itself, which issued a media release through the Department of Information in this sense. Arnold Cassola said: “We must thank MEPs David Casa and Simon Busuttil in particular for this wonderful gift of heavy monetary fines which they have given all Maltese and Gozitans.

“Busuttil and Casa have self-declaredly always been at the forefront, putting pressure on the EU in favour of spring hunting.

“We are now reaping the results of their irresponsible action.”
